Our 8th Annual NYS Conference for Criminal Justice Studies Technical Education Career Instructors will be held on:

January 26 - 28, 2011

at the Holiday Inn 205 Wolf Road, Albany, New York.


Conference Cost = Members - $160 before 1/5/11 after $220.
Non-Members – $185. before 1/5/11 after $220.

“Meet and network with fellow Career and Technical Education Criminal Justice / Security / Law related Instructors from around New York State.”

“Share ideas and ‘Best Practices’ with others in your field”

“A conference summary along with a slide-show presentation will be playing showing various programs that have sent in pictures”

We are requesting that all Instructors bring 60 copies of one lesson plan or class activity that they would like to share with their colleagues and examples of your student portfolios to share or display.

Those Instructors will be entered into a special drawing.

Dr. Michael Baden is the former Chief Medical Examiner of New York City and is presently the chief forensic pathologist for the New York State Police. He received a B.S. Degree from the City College of New York and an M.D. Degree from New York University School of Medicine. He trained in internal medicine and pathology at Bellevue Hospital Medical Center where he was intern, resident and Chief Resident. He has been a medical examiner for forty-five years and has performed more than 20,000 medico-legal autopsies. He has held professorial teaching appointments at Albert Einstein Medical School, Albany Medical College, New York University, New York Law School and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He has been a consultant to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Veteran's Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm's, Drug Enforcement Agency and the United States Department of Justice.

10:50 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. – Session 2 – “ Science Integration in Criminal Justice”
A panel of CTE Science Teachers will discuss “Best Practices” and ways to integrate Science into the Criminal Justice curriculum.

12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. – LUNCH

1:00 p.m. - 1:50 p.m. – Session 3 – "Leading Edge Training.
An Innovative Teaching Method that can motivate your students and mae your teaching more pleasureable.


2:00 p.m. - 2:50 p.m. – Session 4 – Bias Crimes Presented by Robert Reecks


3:00 p.m. - 3:50 p.m. -Session 5 Presented by Eric Ellis, a former BOCES Criminal Justice Student and now in Management with Securatas
This presentation will explain what we can do to prepare our students for a job in the Security Field and enlighten us as to what is available to our students while in high school and college.


BREAK


4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Regional Meetings with Regional Vice Presidents to finalize final reports.

5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – “HOSPITALITY SOCIAL”


As a courtesy to the "Keynote Speaker," it is suggested that members dress appropriately for the occasion. For example, dress as you would for the "Profession" we represent.

Friday - January 28


8:00 a.m. - 8:50 a.m. – Full Breakfast Buffet

9:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. – New York State Education Department a CTE Team Staff Member from NYS Education Dept. will give an update on Department initiatives including Perkins 5 year Plan, P16, CTE team emerging initiatives, along with a question and answer session.

10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. - CJS/TECI Association Meeting
**This is a closed meeting open to CJS/TECI members ONLY.**

-Agenda- Goals and Objectives of our Association, membership status, treasurer’s report, regional standing Committees, next year’s conference, open floor.
